The instructions to produce an individual french knot may be seen as an algorithm that generates a self similar building block that when continually repeated, produces complex patterns similar to those in nature.

'French Knots' focuses on natural patterns that are formed by the self organising repetition of the self similar and a density map within the work becomes clear. I think there is also a visual link with images you might see directly from a microscope which I hope might encourage the viewer to consider the work in ways other than strictly textile.
